Nature of Work

The School of Arts and Sciences seeks to hire a full-time, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science, with appointment to begin August 1, 2019. This is a 10-month, tenure-track position.

Essential Duties

The primary role of this position will be teaching introductory and upper level courses in Oceanography and other related courses in Environmental Sciences such as Coastal Geomorphology, Geochemistry and Hydrology. The successful candidate will have proven knowledge and experience in oceanography. Preference will be given to candidates who are also qualified to teach Marine and Aquatic Biology. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in undergraduate advising, support departmental and college-wide and initiatives, including the development of new courses and improvement of existing curricula. Applicants must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and be able to foster a collaborative atmosphere among students and faculty. The successful candidate will be a strongly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a firm commitment to excellence in teaching. In addition, the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a research program involving undergraduate students. The candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with others and be willing to teach both day and evening courses at the Brunswick campus or Camden Center location as needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

Ph.D. in Environmental Science with specialization in Oceanography/Marine Science or related field from a regionally-accredited institution by the start date of August 1, 2019. Evidence of a dedication to teaching excellence.

Preferred Qualifications and Training

• Scholarly experience in oceanography or related work that requires minimal resources and can be applied to undergraduate research at CCGA.
• Expertise in biogeochemistry and ability to collaborate closely with chemistry faculty to strengthen the analytical chemistry skill set of Environmental Science students.
• Able to teach marine and aquatic biology.
• Recent experience teaching college-level courses.
• Advising or mentoring experience for undergraduates.
