General Summary

Provide brief psychological counseling, intake assessments, and crisis intervention; direct/assist with graduate student training and supervision. Provide consultation, preventive and psycho-educational services to students, faculty and staff.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Provide individual and group psychological counseling for students with psychological and developmental concerns.

Evaluate and diagnose students utilizing the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual and clinical interviews.

Prepare accurate, timely reports and other documents relating to therapy functions.

Plan, implement, or assist with graduate student training and supervision per State of Michigan requirements.

Develop and implement preventive and other psychoeducational programs. Participate in new student orientation and other programs to support student engagement, development and retention.

Utilize appropriate crisis management and debriefing skills to handle individual and campus emergencies.

Keep abreast of State psychology license requirements.

Act in place of Director if required.

Perform related Departmental duties, as required.

Qualifications

A doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology is necessary. Doctoral degree from an APA-accredited institution is strongly preferred.

Full License (or license eligible) as a Psychologist in the state of Michigan is necessary. Candidate must pass the psychologist licensing examination within twelve (12) months of start date if not completed at hire date.

APA-accredited internship is strongly preferred.

Three years' experience providing psychological treatment is necessary.

DSM diagnostic skills and demonstrated ability to provide diagnostic assessment for a wide range of diagnoses is necessary.

Therapeutic knowledge and experience treating a young adult population with a broad range of developmental issues and major psychological problems including, but not limited to depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, sexual abuse and assault, bipolar disorder, and personality disorders, is necessary.

Experience in crisis management is preferred.

Willingness and ability to work within a brief therapy model, is necessary.

Demonstrated sensitivity to multicultural issues and an ability to relate to diverse and under-represented populations is necessary.

Excellent presentation skills are preferred.

Experience in a college or university counseling service or mental health service is preferred.

Work is performed in a suite of offices located in a separate wing of the student health center.
