The Houston Education Research Consortium (HERC) is a research-practice partnership between Rice University and several Houston-area school districts. HERC aims to improve the connection between education research and decision-making, with the ultimate goal of closing socioeconomic gaps in educational achievement and attainment in Houston.

HERC is seeking a full-time Research Analyst to aid in conducting various research projects in partnership with Houston-area school districts. The Research Analyst will assist with the development of research questions, data collection as needed, data analysis, and writing and presenting research findings. Student research assistants may be available when needed. The Research Analyst also will be expected to attend weekly staff and research team meetings. The selected candidate will serve as a representative of HERC and carry out the research agenda established by HERC and its partners.

Education Required Bachelor's Degree Major/Discipline

Education, social science, or related field.

Substitution for Education Requirement

Experience may not be substituted for the education requirement.

Education Preferred

Master’s degree in education, social science, or related field.

Experience Required 3 years Type of Experience

Related experienced in survey methodology and / or other related research experience.

Substitution for Experience Requirement

May substitute additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis for up to two years of the required experience.

Experience Preferred

- Experience working with school districts or research-practice partnerships
- Experience managing data and conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses, such as multilevel and casual modeling, and quasi-experimental methods
- Experience as a Research Assistant or a Project Assistant

License/Certification Required License/Certification Preferred Skills Required

- Good listening, verbal and written communication, analytical, and research skills
- Excellent scientific and numerical skills with meticulous attention to details and accuracy
- Ability to work in a team environment, to participate actively, to collaborate and to motivate others in the lab
-Good critical thinking, technical, data collection and interviewing skills
- Good statistical and graphical analysis skills
- Ability to maintain quality, safety and / or infection control standards
- Ability to plan and schedule effectively
- Knowledge in computer software statistical packages such as Stata, SAS, R, or HLM
-Knowledge of standard statistical methods and techniques: Logit/Probit, OLS regression

Skills Preferred

- Proficient and comprehensive knowledge of information management, knowledge management, and publication management
- Excellent critical thinking, technical, data collection and interviewing skills
- Excellent statistical and graphical analysis skills

Internal / External Contacts

The research analyst will work closely with the director, an associate director, and senior research analysts. He/she will work with various university faculty and staff and may work with research staff at various school districts.

Physical Demands

Must be able to work at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions

Occasional evenings, weekends and travel may be required.
