Scope of Job:
Responsible for the administration and implementation of graduate programs and student services. Provides operational oversight and supervision of the Graduate College activities and responsibilities.

Description of Duties:
• Provides professional leadership to all graduate programs including, but not limited to, recruitment, advisement, orientation, retention, and testing.
• Assists in administering departmental budgets and oversees administration of accountability and reporting systems.
• Manages the development, implementation, and evaluating of recruitment strategies for academic programs; actively participates in planning and developing recruitment communication materials.
• Evaluates programs in accordance with established guidelines and standards; provides advice and assistance as appropriate in the effective development and revision of programs.
• Develops and implements procedures to effectively monitor programs.
• Assists the Director and Dean of Graduate College with degree proposals.
• Resolves policy problems with faculty, staff, and graduate students; advises and provides advocacy on policy issues as appropriate.
• Attends recruitment functions, reviews applications, and maintains contact with prospective students.
• Develops and maintain collaborative relationships with academic units and other relevant offices within UTRGV, including the Registrar, Financial Student Services, Alumni Relations, Marketing and Communications.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Preferred Education:
Master’s degree from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications:
None.

Required Experience:
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in admissions and/or graduate recruitment office, or
• Three (3) years of the required experience with a Master’s degree from an accredited university.

Preferred Experience:
Supervisory experience.

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
NOTE: Position will be based at Palo Alto College in San Antonio, TX.

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Other:
Knowledge of marketing, communications, and strategic planning; enrollment management; student recruitment and retention strategies. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with all components of the university and external constituents.

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
