 TheAnschutz Health & Wellness Center has an opening for a full-time,University Staff (unclassified) Fitness Center Facilities Supervisor (CustodianIII) position.

Natureof Work:

This position is responsiblefor the cleanliness and operational readiness of the 30,000 square feet FitnessCenter facility.  This position managesthe custodial staff and works with the campus facilities department to ensure ahigh quality facility for all members.


Supervision Received:Reports to Fitness CenterAssistant General Manager


Supervision Exercised:Custodial Staff (4 FTE)


Examples of WorkPerformed:

  • Creates, implements and trains all staff on standardized work routine for cleaning of the facility and laundry services.
  • Update routine as needed in order to keep the facility in line with best practices as to safety.
  • Work closely with the campus facilities department and the campus building lead to ensure operational readiness.
  • Work with vendors for maintenance and repairs of facilities and equipment.
  • Work with Fire and Life Safety to ensure compliance.
  • Work with Environmental Health and Safety to ensure safety with all chemicals and biohazards present on site.
  • Work closely with equipment vendor on warranty repairs to ensure equipment is fully functioning.
  • Work with Center IT manager to ensure audio and visual features of the Fitness Center are working correctly.
  • Recruit, develop, motivate and evaluate direct reports as needed to meet demand of services.
  • Ensure County pool inspections are passed or violations rectified.
  • Ensure pool and spa chemicals, water quality are up to county specifications.  Perform preventative maintenance on all pool lines as needed.
  • Order and stock all custodial, pool and other area supplies.
  • Ensure custodial equipment is functioning or acquires new equipment.
  • Responsible for compliance with all University of Colorado policies and procedures which include but are not limited to risk management and safety.
  • Assists with other areas of the Fitness Center as needed.
  • Staff clean lobby and other first floor areas as directed.

     Salary and Benefits:The starting salaryfor this position has been established at $45,000 and is negotiable and commensuratewith skills and experience. This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

    QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of previous fitness facilities or similar facility maintenance experience.
  • Two (2) years of previous custodial or related experience.
  • Experience working with OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Special Necessary Qualification:
  • CurrentCPR/AED/First Aid certification required at time of hire.

  • Mustbe willing and able to work outside, exposed to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windyconditions caused by the weather, and in high, exposed places.
  • .Mustbe willing and able to work with others and effectively communicate verballyand in writing.
  • Mustbe willing and able to work in small, confined spaces and work around machineryor moving equipment.
  • Mustbe willing and able to work with toxic or caustic chemicals, and be exposed toradiant energy and electrical shock.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • One (1) year previous supervision or team lead experience.
  • Certified Pool Operator.
  • Experience with Technogym brand equipment.
  • Experience working with CU policies and procedures as it relates to fire and life safety and facilities management.
  • Bilingual, Spanish Preferred.
  • Competencies/Knowledge, Skills andAbilities:

  • Abilityto lead and motivate a cohesive team.
  • Abilityto understand and work within a complex institution with government, regulatoryand compliance policies and procedures.
  • Effectivecommunication skills both orally and written.
  • Indepth knowledge of fitness center building infrastructure such as pool, spa,HVAC and some Audio/Visual knowledge.
  • Thoroughknowledge of related OSHA and EPA regulations and ability to effectivelycommunicate regulations to others.
