Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

This is responsible administrative and supervisory work in food service management at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, GA. It is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing a diversified staff of food service personnel in the operation of a large cafeteria, banquet facilities, and kitchen. Work involves the application of considerable judgment and initiative in planning work programs, staffing for operation, requisitioning and purchasing food supplies, and training employees in food service and preparation. The Dining Commons Manager is responsible for the supervision of multiple employees and a food service unit serving a large volume of meals, including numerous catered events, weddings, and banquets both on and off the Center property. Direction is received from an administrative superior on matters pertaining to special events and Center operating policies. Work is evaluated through observation and in terms of customer experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

• Thorough knowledge of institutional or commercial food service management procedures and practices
• Considerable knowledge of health and safety requirements applicable to a high volume food service operation
• Considerable knowledge of food values, nutrition, and menu planning
• Ability to control and manage high volume food service operations
• Ability to supervise the work of others
• Ability to prepare work schedules for employees and to instruct subordinates in food service procedures
• Ability to maintain a variety of operating and general records and to prepare reports
• Ability to obtain Serve Safe Certification
• Ability to manage catering operations to include regular hands-on involvement
• Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and guest
• Ability to drive a minivan and small box/delivery truck

Physical Demands

Dining Commons Manager will be involved and active in the day-to-day operations of the dining hall. This includes, but not limited to lifting 50 or more pounds, standing and walking in extreme heat for an extended period in an active kitchen.
