The UTRGV School of Medicine is recruiting Behavioral Health Faculty. This position will be an Assistant or Associate Professor/ Clinical non-tenure track depending on qualifications and experience. The faculty will be responsible for providing focused, consultation?based services to patients and providers as a Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) using a Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model of service delivery. Duties also include supervision of family medicine residents, medical students, and psychology residents/fellows/externs in behavioral medicine within PCBH consultation model at the Family Medicine Residency clinic affiliated with the Department. Candidates will facilitate behavioral science curriculum development and teaching for the FM residency including, but not limited to conducting Balint / support Groups and a PCBH rotation for residents; completing resident training evaluations and providing feedback to residents about patient-provider style and interaction. To facilitate clinical and academic roles, the position will have .8 FTE dedicated to patient care, clinical teaching, supervision of learners on rotation (residents, medical students, psychology / behavioral health trainees) with .2FTE dedicated to academic and administrative work.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in clinical or counseling psychology, family therapy, or social work from an accredited program (APA/CPA, COAMFTE, CSWE ?accredited program) and have completed a clinical internship/residency appropriate for the field of study (APA?accredited internship/residency in clinical/counseling psychology / Medical Family Therapy/social work internship). Candidates must also possess 1-2 years in providing integrated behavioral health services through the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model and be skilled in the use of evidence?based assessment and treatment approaches for behavioral health disorders (e.g., anxiety, depression, substance use, etc.), medical conditions (e.g., chronic pain, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes management, etc.) and lifestyle factors (e.g., weight management, tobacco cessation, exercise, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

Evidence of PCBH focused training and completion of Behavioral Health Consultant competencies; Experience in serving as a supervising faculty in facilitating PCBH focused rotations to medical learners (residents, medical students).

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.
