General Description of Class:

Under general supervision inaccordance with specific procedures, operates recycling vehicles and equipmentand collects recyclable materials from campus buildings and grounds..

Typical Duties:

The following illustrative tasks indicate the level ofskill required and the extent of the responsibility involved in thisposition.  They in no way limit theincumbent to the tasks indicated.

 

Flexibility of the employee to perform a wide variety offunctions is necessary in successfully fulfilling the requirements of thisposition.  The degree to which eachemployee performs each of the following tasks listed below will vary accordingto where and when the employee is scheduled to work.

   

a)        collectsgarbage and recyclable materials according to specific procedures;

b)        cleans andmaintains central work area, collection areas and all garbage/recycling binsacross campus;

c)        dailyinspects garbage and recycling bins for contamination and removes same;

d)        informsuniversity community members and/or recycling coordinator of contaminationproblems when necessary;

e)        distributesgarbage bins, recycling containers, and other items as required;

f)         transfersfull central paper recycling bins to pick-up point, and exchanges them forempty bins;

g)        takesrecyclable items to off-campus locations when necessary;

h)        directsService Workers in performing assigned tasks;

i)         works onsnow and ice removal; and

j)         otherrelated duties as required.




Campus

Minimum Requirements:

Education:     

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.


Experience:   

One year related experience and/or combination of educational equivalent.


Other:           

Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written), possession of valid provincial Class "G" driver's license; physical ability to perform required duties; good public relations skills (courtesy and tact); working knowledge of environmental issues; ability to work in all weather conditions.
