Job Summary Requisition Number: 30160 Job Title: FACILITIES MECHANIC Working Title: Facilities Mechanic - Building Salary: $28.49 hourly Job Type: Career Department Name: 3192-LUSKIN CONFERENCE CENTER Department Website URL: https://luskinconferencecenter.ucla.edu/ Job Summary Statement: The Luskin Conference Center (LCC) is designed as a 300,000 square foot, 7-story, International Association of Conference Centers (IACC) certified property on the UCLA campus. The LCC is comprised of 254 guest rooms, approximately 25,000 square feet of meeting space, a 160-seat restaurant, a fitness center, and a business center. The total staff anticipated for the LCC is approximately 165-180 FTE, with total revenue projected at $30 million annually. The LCC is an academic meeting and conference destination supporting UCLA's education and research mission.

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Facilities Mechanic will perform semi-skilled tasks, not requiring a licensed technician, involving the installation, removal, diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance, of various parts, equipment, and assemblies, on a regular and continuous basis on and around the LCC property. Required skills will include knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, doors and windows, building hardware appliances, floor and ceiling systems, roofing, and basic construction methods. Experience in the use of building and maintenance, parts and materials, and standard hand and power tools is required. The position is physically demanding and the necessity to work varying and sometimes extended hours under difficult conditions should be expected. The ability to read, write, and speak English, to prepare forms and paperwork associated with the various tasks, to operate a personal computer, and to drive a car or small truck are also required.

Must be able to work nights, weekends and some holidays. Required Working knowledge of basic electric theory, wiring, and 120/208v electrical systems and working knowledge of basic electric theory, wiring, and low-voltage 12v/24v electrical systems. Required Working knowledge of mechanical equipment including motors, fans, heaters, air conditioners, and controls. Preferred Strong knowledge of building materials and equipment. Required Working knowledge of cardkey door locks and their operating systems. Ability to use a portable programmer to find and solve problems. Required Ability to independently perform semi-skilled plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry repairs. Required Ability to read, interpret, and understand architectural plans and specifications. Required Ability to select appropriate tools for each task assigned and to use these tools properly and safely. Knowledge and skill in operating all hand and power tools standard to the maintenance and construction trades. Required Basic math skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, plus the ability to understand fractions, decimals and percentages. The ability to compute basic formulas such area calculations. Required Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with staff, management, students, residents, guests, and contractors. Required Capable of properly prioritizing assignments and able make appropriate adjustments when there are changes in workload or competing deadlines. Required Ability to read and understand all applicable policies, procedures, and rules. Required Ability to stand, walk, crawl, climb, stoop, push, pull, and crouch for extended periods. Able to repeatedly raise or lower objects weighing up to 50 lbs from the floor to waist high and rotate upper torso. Ability to lift material and parts, up to 50 pounds, from shoulder to above head while standing on a ladder. Ability to work in dirty and noisy conditions, in wet or humid weather and in fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures. Required Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License. Ability to drive a truck and/or electrical cart. Required Some operational knowledge of personal computers and Some experience with basic computer software including Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel. Required Capable of distinguishing different colors. Required Available to work overtime including nights and weekends. Required Must be able to work various shifts, including nights and weekends, on a regular basis.
