This is a full-time, benefits eligible, at will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.

This position, under the direct supervision of the Student Health Services (SHS) Director, will be responsible for supervision of the laboratory staff and radiology technologists. The SHS clinical laboratory performs testing ranging from waived to high complexity. The incumbent will ensure adequate staffing levels, productivity and performance of these employees, through the creation and implementation of schedules and will counsel, evaluate and performance manage employees. The incumbent will develop and implement standards, policies, and procedures as directed by the Medical Director/Laboratory Director or management staff. The Laboratory Manager will work with the management team to institute and document appropriate training to ensure that these staff members are knowledgeable regarding the performance of their duties. The incumbent will represent the laboratory and radiology departments on management and budgetary planning issues, ensuring economical and efficient operations. This position serves as a member of the Quality Management committee.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or equivalent from an accredited institution or equivalent post-secondary education, training and experience as defined by the California Division of Laboratory Science or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
• Two years of progressively responsible administrative and technical work within a clinical laboratory
• Demonstrated experience in assessing, planning, developing, implementing and evaluating clinical laboratory programs
• Demonstrated experience providing lead work direction to specified health center staff
• Possess and maintain a valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

• Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting with good interpersonal and communication skills
• Possess computer skills in both practice management and electronic health records as well as e-mail, basic Microsoft Word and Excel
