Job Summary:
The Veterans Advisor assists student military, veterans and dependents as they transition to college and serves as the primary contact for admissions counseling, ongoing academic advising and financial aid counseling for veteran students. The Advisor acts as mentor and advocate in meeting veterans’ needs, serves as a liaison to veteran organizations within the community, and shows professional judgement in providing a full spectrum of enrollment services including administration of all veteran benefits. The Advisor also conducts programming activities designed to increase veteran/dependent enrollment, retention and graduation rates. The Advisor has an upbeat and positive personality as s/he serves as the face of a continually growing and dynamic organization.
Supplemental Functions:
- Contribute to College initiatives by participating on appropriate committees
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Travel between both colleges and coordinate programs between campuses

- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Able to relate to veterans of all ages

- Excellent organization skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Motivated, self-starter

- Work independently, while fostering relationships and a cooperative teamwork environment
- Comfortable working with all age groups
- Understand academic programs offered as well as appropriate policies and procedures

- Working knowledge Microsoft Office programs
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Occasional travel between both colleges
- No major sources of discomfort, standard office environment
- Must be able to work some nights and weekends
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred
- Military experience within the last ten years required
- Proven ability to effectively work with a diversity of people.
- Experience in public speaking, office management, report writing, and working on a team.
- Financial aid or academic advising experience in a college or university setting preferred
