Job Summary

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts in Clayton State University’s College of Arts and Sciences seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication, to begin August 1, 2019.

This position is an academic year, tenure-track appointment that reports to the Chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive with comparable programs.

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts offers undergraduate degrees and minors in Communication and Media Studies, Film Production, Music, Music Education, and Theatre, along with minor programs in Art and Corporate Communication and an AA in Film Production. Responsibilities

• Teach Communication and Media Studies courses at all levels with a 4-4 teaching load;
• Engage in scholarly activity leading to presentation and publication;
• Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community.

Required Qualifications

• An earned doctorate in Communication (ABD considered) or a terminal degree in a closely related field by time of appointment;
• Successful college-level teaching experience at the undergraduate level;
• At least 18 graduate hours in Communication;
• Ability and qualifications to teach undergraduate courses in public speaking.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to teach hands-on courses in one or more of the following areas:

Podcasting/streaming video;

Radio/television broadcasting;

Multimedia production;

Social media production;

• Evidence of scholarly potential, including presentations and/or publications;
• Successful college-level teaching experience in foundational courses in spoken communication.
