The McIntire Department of Art in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia seeks a contemporary fine artist for a two-year position as a Lecturer of Art in digital and conceptual foundations. This full-time position will be based in the Studio Art Program. We seek an experienced instructor whose teaching areas includes digital, conceptual and drawing foundations. Knowledge of and experience with the full Adobe Suite is expected.

The foundations course is a pre-requisite for all other studio courses. The successful applicant’s knowledge of current and emerging trends in contemporary art, as well as skill working with still and time-based digital processes, will help prepare students for the department’s upper level classes include painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, new media and cinematography. 

Applications that demonstrate creative problem-solving and critical discourse are preferred. A Master's degree in a relevant field is required, with preference given to applicants with a relevant terminal degree (MFA). Applicants must have an established exhibition history and evidence of current and ongoing creative practice. The Art Department at UVA is focused on undergraduate studio art education within a liberal arts college. 

Qualified candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching and at least two years of college-level teaching experience beyond graduate school. Preferred qualifications include proven commitments to the enhancement of curricula, the mentorship of students, and the growth and success of an undergraduate Art program.
