PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Controller is responsible for the leadership and coordination of the University's accounting and finance functions, including budget development and management, forecasting, and accurate financial reporting.



Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Lead and direct all accounting and finance operations for multiple campus locations; to include general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, fixed assets, payroll, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and analysis.
  2. Serve as a valuable and trusted resource to executive team members providing strong leadership and contributing to the success of the University.
  3. Establish policies and procedures for accounting and finance functions that are consistent with approved University policies and conform to
  4. Develop intemal control systems and metrics to ensure that assets are properlysafeguarded, transactions are properly recorded and financial reporting is accurate and timely.
  5. Manage month-end and annual closing processes including timely preparation of balance sheet, income statements, and cash flow statements. Monitor and analyze operational results against budget.
  6. Monitor cash balances and initiate funds transfers or wires, as appropriate.
  7. Direct and coordinate the preparation of financial forecasts, financial planning, budget development and management functions.
  8. Present financial data and analyses to executive management, Audit, Budget, and Financial Oversight Committee, the Board of Trustees, and other extemal stakeholders, as necessary.
  9. Monitor compliance with bank debt covenants, financial ratios, and various reporting requirements.
  10. Serve as the primary contact and coordinate the annual independent audit; prepare audit schedules, and analysis required for the effective completion of the audit.
  11. Research and document technical accounting issues for compliance.
  12. Oversee the filing of IRS forms 1098T, 1099-Misc. and other required forms.
  13. Administration of the business office modules within Jenzabar (ERP) to include: testing of planned upgrades, recommending additions or changes to Jenzabar functionality, and training others within the finance department on proper utilization of Jenzabar.
  14. Establish short- and long-term departmental goals and objectives that align with the University's overall strategy.
  15. Other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer/CFO.

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of accounting and finance operations.
  2. Knowledge of GAAP.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  4. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural team-based setting.
  6. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, and Outlook with advanced Excel Skills.
  8. A Certified Public Accountant.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting.
  2. A minimum of eight years' accounting or similar industry experience demonstrating increasing growth and responsibility.
  3. Experience with mid-range accounting software such as ACCPAC, Great Plains, MAS90/200, Navision or similar packages.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Previous experience with development of procedures, systems and personnel.
  2. Higher education experience
  3. Public accounting experience.
  4. Supervisory experience.
  5. Experience with Jenzabar.
