Title: Lecturer in Public Speaking

Description: The Department of English at Hartwick College invites applications for a part-time appointment at the rank of instructor starting in August 2018, pending final administrative approval. We seek candidates with expertise in teaching the principles of public speaking, including the ability to create and deliver a well-structured, rhetorically effective speech or statement; to master listening techniques; to analyze the constituent parts of an effective speech; to engage in research techniques that support the crafting of context- and audience-specific communication. Applicants able to teach digital media applications for public speaking—specifically, the ability to create audio postcards, podcasts and online videos—are particularly sought. The successful candidate will possess a minimum of an M.A. and should be able to demonstrate not only experience in teaching principles of public speaking but also a commitment to excellence, innovation, and diversity in undergraduate teaching. Candidates must be prepared to teach on a three-day-per-week (MWF) schedule.

Campus and Location

Study Abroad and Off-Campus Study
Hartwick students travel everywhere, from Italy to India, for January Term, semester-long, or year-long programs. Approximately 60% of Hartwick students study abroad during their undergraduate years, making Hartwick 2nd in the nation among baccalaureate colleges for the percentage of students who study abroad. Athletics
Hartwick sponsors 18 intercollegiate teams, 8 for men and 10 for women. Hartwick sports compete at the NCAA Division III level. Many of Hartwick's Division III teams participate in the Empire 8 conference.
