Job Description:


The State University of New York at Fredonia invites applications for a part-time, FTE 50% Graduate Assistant position in the School of Music. This position is filled on an as-needed basis in accordance with campus and department policy.


This graduate assistantship is offered for the 2019-2020 academic year, and will be available for a second year based on the candidate's success with the assistantship and with graduate coursework. Candidates who are selected for and accept the assistantship will receive an annual stipend of $3,350 and a tuition waiver for 4.5 credits in-state tuition each semester as GA.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


Reporting to the Director of Music Therapy, the Graduate Assistant will:


  • Schedule undergraduate placements, based on the schedules of music therapy students, placement sites and supervisors;
  • Collect student schedules;
  • Communicate with placements' on-site supervisors regarding schedules and number of hours available to take students;
  • Calculate how many sites need music therapy supervisors (sites where there are no music therapists);
  • Organize all information collected into a workable schedule;
  • Attend Monday 6 pm Clinical Seminar, provide clinical 'tip of the week' each meeting;
  • Copy and distribute evaluation forms to clinical supervisors, communicate with clinical supervisors regarding scheduling evaluation meetings with students;
  • Supervise 3-4 Junior clinical placement students for 10 weeks per semester (2 hours observation and 1 hour supervision meeting per week for 2 students at a time);
  • Cover information sessions at Open Houses and Audition days as needed;
  • Provide service to the department and university;
  • Know, understand, and follow all university policies.

Work responsibilities will reflect approximately 10 hours each week of each semester of the assistantship (initial weeks of each semester typically require more hours, and the rest of the semester less than 10 hours per week to compensate).



Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Enrollment in a current Graduate program with good standing;
  • Must be a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) through the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT);
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively, and in a collegial and professional manner, with students, faculty, and staff;
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission
