Governors State University is seeking an Executive Director of their Family Development Center, which includes an Early Head Start program. The Family Development Center is a 36,000 square foot facility with 13 classroom and approximately 45 full-time and part-time staff. Under the direction of the Dean of the College of Education, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall administration and management of all components of the Family Development Center, a program of developmentally appropriate care and education of young families. The Director monitors adherence to the accreditation standards of the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), as well as the State of Illinois Child Care Facility Licensing Regulations, and any other grant requirements. Along with the staff, the Director oversees the daily activities of the Center and is responsible for developing and planning operational procedures and the budget to ensure a high-quality program in a safe and healthy environment for children and adults.

Governors State University seeks a Director who is flexible, patient, problem-solving, able to set boundaries, and works well under pressure with multiple timelines. The Director must have a commitment to teamwork, work collaboratively, interface with parents, current applicable licenses, pass background checks, experience working with diverse populations, a flexible schedule, knowledge of community resources (or willingness to learn), and own transportation

Minimum Qualifications

• Level II Director’s Credential or Principal’s License
• Master’s Degree in Early Childhood, Development, Special Education, Social Work or related field
• At least five years supervisory experience
• At least five years of experience with fiscal management
• At least five years of experience with Head Start
• Knowledge of a variety of software and technology/databases
• Experience with grant-writing

Preferred Qualifications

• More than five years Supervisory/management experience
• Level III Director’s Credential
• Demonstrated success with grant-writing and grant management
• Bilingual
• Current or former Head Start parent
• Experience working at a University
• Classroom experience and/or home visiting experience
