Job Title Community Service Officer II Department Department of Public Safety Position Summary

Gettysburg College seeks a full time Community Service Officer II within our Department of Public Safety. This position performs a variety of safety and security duties within the Department of Public Safety (DPS) in accordance with the philosophy and organizational strategy associated with Community Service Oriented Patrolling (CSOP) and community-policing. Position will also be assigned an additional administrative duty or task by the administrative leadership of the department that is in line with existing and current strategic objectives. This additional duty may include assisting the Associate Director or DPS Investigator in follow-up investigations, coordinating advanced community-policing or problem-solving programming, etc.

Qualifications

A minimum of 5 years of Municipal, Federal, Military, Security or College/University Law Enforcement experience and training required. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (criminal justice, sociology, political science, management, business administration, psychology, etc.) or Pennsylvania Act 120 Municipal Police Training Commission Academy or Police Officer Standardized Training (POST) Academy Completion/Certification plus 2 to 3 years of practical experience, or an equivalent combination of applicable education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be substituted. Prior experience as a campus law enforcement or security officer on a college campus is highly desirable.

Gettysburg College seeks candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues and community members.

ACT 235 Certification (Lethal Weapons Training Academy) or the ability to become certified within the six month probationary period is required. Certification in the use of Automatic Electronic Defibrillators (AED), OC Spray, tasers, batons, handcuffing, first responder, first aid or CPR preferred, however, not required at the time of employment. Pennsylvania Act 120 Municipal Police Training Commission Academy or Police Officer Standardized Training (POST) Academy Completion/Certification highly desirable prior to hire. A valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one is required. CPR or additional medical training is preferred but not required.
