General Summary

This is a half-time graduate assistantship (10 hours per week) in Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), the campus mental health clinic for students. The clinic provides individual, couple and group therapy as well as psychiatric care. This is a federal work-study graduate assistantship so the selected individual will need to qualify for a need-based, work-study GA through the Office of Financial Aid. The role the CAPS GA is to assist students in scheduling therapy and psychiatry appointments and to serve as the primary back up for the administrative team. The CAPS GA may serve as a case manager for students requiring assistance with referrals for community services, food, and shelter.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Gain working knowledge of all the services provided at EMU CAPS.
  • Assist front desk staff in scheduling appointments and scanning confidential materials into the CAPS record keeping system.
  • Develop proficiency in using Titanium Schedule, our electronic medical records software.
  • Assist CAPS clients with referrals for community services, food or shelter.
  • Input and analyze the data provided by the Client Satisfaction Questionnaire administered to clients.
  • Offer educational programs about mental health topics to EMU community.
  • Monitor and maintain the CAPS social media.
  • Develop advertisements such as flyers and announcements for the various CAPS activities including group therapies and outreach programs and events.
  • Other departmental duties as requested.


Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of mental health concerns and treatments as well as knowledge of ethical guidelines and state laws pertaining to mental health records and confidentiality.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced medical clinic.
  • Admission and enrollment in a Clinical Psychology, Leadership and Counseling, or Social Work graduate program is required.


Supplemental Information

This is a half-time graduate assistantship (10 hours per week).

For a full-time GA appointment, the University provides a tuition scholarship for up to 18 credit hours in each academic year (September 1 to August 31) of the assistantship.

For graduate assistants who are appointed to part-time positions and for GAs who begin employment after the start of the semester, the number of credit hours covered by the award will be prorated.
