10-15 hours per week. Candidates must be available to work Saturdays 9am-5pm and Sundays 1pm-5pm

The Weekend Shop Assistant will work assigned shifts (including weekends) and open and close the Garden Shop or do inventory as needed. He/She will handle cash, credit, checks (includes use of credit card machine) for sales and reconciliation. The person in this position will need to have the ability to become familiar with stock (plants, various gifts, consignment items, etc.) and being able to talk about their features with customers. Other duties may include but are not limited to:
Assist with inventory check-in and merchandise display;
Upkeep of demographics data in Excel spreadsheet;
General housekeeping for Garden Shop (dusting shelves, sweeping floors, etc.);
Using great customer service skills to provide welcoming environment for all;
Have a positive, friendly personality in order to work with Garden Shop staff and customers;
Ability to execute other Garden Shop operations and policies, as needed.

Education and Experience

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Essential Skills:
Proficient in technology to accurately and efficiently process transactions in compliance with store policy: sales, returns and exchanges, gift certificates, special orders, etc.

Preferred:
Experience with using Point of Sale (POS) software on computer to process sales and/or cashier experience is preferred, if candidate does not possess POS experience, must have the ability to learn software required. Exhibits an attitude that is positive, “can do” and customer-centered.

Special Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to safely lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 lbs with or without accommodation.
