We are a phytoplankton ecophysiology and genomics lab in the UNC Marine Sciences Department seeking a lab assistant to assist with the analysis of large sequence datasets obtained through high-throughput sequencing technologies. Various projects include 18S rDNA analysis of eukaryotic plankton communities from marine systems. Responsibilities will include the extraction of DNA, PCR, sequence library preparation, development and maintenance of a bioinformatics pipeline for sequence analysis using the UNC clusters, implementing biostatistical approaches to determine taxonomic composition and tools for data visualization.

Education and Experience

Minimal requirements include a graduate degree in biology, biostatistics or computational sciences-related fields.

Desired skills include experience with DNA extractions and sequence library preparation, knowledge of the unix/linux command line (for bash scripting) and computer languages such as R, Python and/or Perl, and biostatistical approaches.
