We invite candidates to apply for our Academic Advisor – HS Retention Specialist SL. This position is responsible for providing onsite and online academic advising to a specific roster of students including all participating South Lake County Dual Enrollment students.  This role also serves as the primary contact for SL Dual Enrollment students, guidance counselors, and parents.   Academic Advising duties include: curriculum planning, academic policy interpretation, review of transfer credit, assist with course selection, provide transfer school information, review graduation requirements, and maintain historic academic advising records for current and prospective students. The Academic Advisor plans and implements student success and retention programs; serves as a referral agent to resources for students in academic distress; assists in data collection and continuous improvement efforts; assists with the delivery of departmental programs including student recruitment, orientation, academic early-alert, retention initiatives; and implements intrusive advising initiatives.  Academic advisors support experiential learning; design and deliver presentations aimed at reinforcing student academic and career exploration; conduct regular outreach to LSSC faculty and staff; and assist in the creation and maintenance of departmental and institutional publications and websites. Providing academic advising in the evening one night per week is expected. Advisors are responsible for demonstrating LSSC's core values of Service Excellence: Respect, Competence, Responsiveness, and Collaboration in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s degree in counseling, education,  

human services or related area preferred. EXPERIENCE: Required: Two years professional experience working

directly with students in an academic setting in higher education. Preferred: At least one year of academic

advising experience in an academic setting in higher education. Demonstrated experience with online learning and Internet technology.
