The McIntire Department of Art in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia seeks a contemporary fine artist specializing in photography for a one-year position as a Lecturer of Art.  This full-time position will be based in the Studio Art Program.

We seek an experienced instructor whose primary practice includes black and white dark room skills, analog and digital color photography using the most current digital editing tools, and view camera teaching experience. The successful applicant’s knowledge of current and emerging trends, as well as industry experience outside the academic setting, will complement and support the department’s other fine arts concentrations that include painting, printmaking, sculpture, new media and cinematography. A Master's degree in a relevant field is required, with preference given to applicants with a relevant terminal degree (MFA). Candidates must also have an established exhibition history and evidence of current and ongoing creative practice. Two years minimum teaching experience beyond the T.A. and an exhibition record that reflects commitment and continued involvement is required. Preference will be given to applicants that demonstrate creative problem-solving and critical discourse.

The Art Department at UVA is focused on undergraduate studio art education within a liberal arts college. Qualified candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching and at least two years of college-level teaching experience beyond graduate school within an undergraduate liberal arts context.  Preferred qualifications include proven commitments to the enhancement of curricula, the mentorship of students, and the growth and success of an undergraduate Art program.
