Job Description

Job Summary:

The Library Assistant, under supervision, provides library customer service and support. Learns basic library functions in one or more library units.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•    This position will work in conjunction with the Thesis Office to promote the Thesis Office website, materials, and services to both faculty and those students enrolled in the Graduate School.
•    May attend campus-wide and other events to promote the Thesis Office.
•    Assists archives in converting physical collections into digital formats using a variety of scanners and audiovisual equipment. 
•    Performs entry level archival customer service and support. 
•    Assists in basic functions and processes in one or more library units.
•    May assist with the arrangement and description of collections, preparations of finding aids, and providing appropriate preservation housing.
•    May provide background research on documents. 
•    May assist with exhibit preparation and installation.

Minimum Requirements:

Education – High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience – One year of related experience in customer service or general office/clerical work.

Knowledge of – Knowledge of word processing applications. Knowledge of email and basic internet searches. 
Ability to – Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Basic keyboarding skills.   
Licensing / Professional Certification – None. 

Physical Requirements – Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.

Supervision of Others

This position generally does not supervise employees. 

Other Requirements

•    Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores.

Hours: Flexible: 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri (15 hours per week)

Salary: $9.30/hour
