Under the direction of the Plastic Surgery Division Chief, the Physician Assistant (PA) will function as a provider of patient care on specific surgical in- and out-patient services. The PA will function as a surgical assistant in the operating room and in the clinics in coordination with established surgical services. Direct supervision will occur by assigned attending surgeons. The position requires a strong emphasis on the complete care of the surgical patient, from pre- to post-op settings. The position will identify problems, develop and implement treatment plans, and educate patients on specific procedures including what to expect before, during, and after procedures.

This position will be responsible for assisting physicians with cosmetic surgery, reconstructive surgery and wound care. The position will be responsible for follow-up patient care after procedures to ensure healing including wound care/surgical site care, and suture removal. The successful candidate will show interest in learning and staying current on aesthetic trends and associated tools in the industry such as, wrinkle relaxation and dermal filler treatments, laser treatments and microneedeling treatment, Coolsculpting, and the practice of customized consultations and skin care treatments.

The provider will perform and assist with laser, injectable and aesthetic treatments in the clinic setting. The position will work at multiple locations including Hillcrest and La Jolla.

• Current California Physician Assistant (PA) license.

• Current PA Certification from NCCPA.

• BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

• Minimum one (1) year licensed Physician Assistant work experience.

• Demonstrated ability to perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.

• Knowledge of all types of treatment and modalities necessary for patients care and well-being, and ability to write orders regarding execution of inpatient, outpatient plans of treatment.

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other health care personnel, and skill at providing clear written, verbal and telephone communication with a wide variety of people.

• Ability to maintain good working relationships and communications with physicians in-charge, laboratory personnel, and members of the health care team.

• Surgical or dermatology experience.

• Procedural experience.

• Plastic surgery or aesthetics experience.

• Must be able to obtain UCSD medical staff privileges.
• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
• Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
• Must be able to work flexible, variable hours with the ability to change schedule on short notice. May require occasional evening and weekend hours beyond the normal workday.
