Preferred Qualifications Position SummaryThis position will help submitting veterinarians diagnose illnesses by conducting routine microbiological tests. Duties may include initial setup of samples, subculturing and identification of significant isolates. The position will assist with maintaining quality control within the laboratory section and be responsible for data entry of case results. This position will also act as backup to other technicians within the section.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or CompetenciesExperience in a laboratory environment. Experience in Biology and/or Microbiology. Ability to utilize/analyize computer data, and the ability to enter data. Ability to work well with a team. Some weekend and holiday work.
Physical DemandsExtended periods of sitting conducting bench work and some light lifting.

Duties/Responsibilities Duties/ResponsibilitiesPrimary inoculation of the samples received for bacterial and or fungal culture. Subculture of significant bacteria and set up tests on isolates. Interpret results for identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
Percentage of time 40 Duties/Responsibilities Duties/ResponsibilitiesAssist in reading and recording daily temperatures for the incubators, refrigerators and freezers. Maintain daily rotation of stored completed refrigerated samples. Assist in maintaining quality control, quality assurance, and standard operating protocols in the laboratory. Assist with ongoing research projects.
