The Accountant is an integral part of the Recreational Sports business services team and reports directly to the Business Manager II. This position is solely responsible for the following critical job responsibilities: posting revenue and expense transactions for 16 departmental accounts (approximately $5M); providing accounting, purchasing and travel support for 42 student club sports teams and professional staff members; preparing all departmental sales tax reports, intra-university charges, and vendor payment requests; reconciling inventories of resale merchandise with weekly sales; and providing back-up to the departmental receptionist position. Reconciling and analyzing financial transactions and reports as well as maintaining auditable records. Work responsibilities involve independent interpretation of policy and procedures and some discretion on actions to be taken.

While performing the normal duties of the job, the employee will frequently move throughout the 440,000 sq. ft Ramsey Center; to stand; walk; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms. The employee will occasionally operate department owned vehicles to run job related errands. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift/more up to 50 pounds. Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

Duties/Responsibilities Duties/ResponsibilitiesProvide accounting and purchasing support for 42 student sports clubs. Process all student travel requests and reimbursements. Keep all budgets current and monitor accounts for problems. Assist the Competitive Sports team and club members with purchase requests, account information and expenditure policies/procedures. Assist with planning and leading club sports officer trainings for purchasing and travel.

File corresponding documents and maintain secure, auditable files. Monitor accounts and notify the Business Manager II of potential problems. Assist with balancing all accounts to PeopleSoft financial reports.
Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities Duties/ResponsibilitiesProcess all intra-university charges utilizing the PeopleSoft General Ledger module. Prepare all payment requests to vendors and refunds to customers in PeopleSoft and respond to payment inquiries from vendors. Process staff travel requests and reimbursements in PeopleSoft by serving as the departmental delegate.
Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities Duties/ResponsibilitiesPrepare and reconcile the faculty/staff payroll deduction for membership enrollment, changes and cancellations for all UGA pay types. Maintain a working relationship with the Payroll Department and contact them with any discrepancies immediately.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities Duties/ResponsibilitiesAssist at the Membership Services Desk and serve as serve as the back-up for the departmental receptionist including answering main phone line and assisting walk-ins. Assist with daily deposit reconciliation and verification of online program registration data as assigned.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities Duties/ResponsibilitiesProcess catalog and non-catalog purchase requisitions using UGAMart. Create receipts, submit invoices for payment, and respond to Procurement inquiries in UGAMart.
