The NC State Veterinary Hospital is an integrated health care center for companion, equine and farm animals. We exist to further the teaching mission of the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine and to provide state-of-the-art patient care. Essential Job Duties

This position will serve as a senior clinician on the Orthopedic Surgery Service. They will assume primary case management responsibilities, and will oversee the residents, interns, students and technicians that contribute to the team. The selected candidate will provide high quality effective and efficient patient care for a variety of cases. Clinical responsibilities will entail all the duties associated with case management (client and referral veterinarian communication, development of a diagnostic and treatment plan, interpretation of diagnostic findings, implementation of a treatment plan, surgery, post-operative care, development of a home care plan, and adherence to hospital fiscal policies). Consultation will be provided to other services within the CVM, and to referring veterinarians. Managerial responsibilities will include developing schedules, evaluation of team members, equipment assessment, and new team member training.

Individual will be expected to lead daily case rounds and mentor and instruct interns, residents, and senior veterinary students on the Orthopedic Surgery. They will provide resident training opportunities through orthopedic topic and case-based rounds and skills labs.

This position has an expected duration of 1 year.

Other Work/Responsibilities

Active contribution to the knowledge base through collaboration with other clinical specialists and/or basic scientists or through independent research and board preparation is encouraged but not specifically required.

Minimum Education/Experience

DVM or equivalent degree and completion of a residency training program in small animal surgery.

Departmental Required Skills

Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

Strong commitment to excellence in teaching is expected.

Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation.
