This vital Human Resources leadership position requires significant HR knowledge. The Assistant Vice President reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer and provides day-to-day leadership, management and vision to the operational, administrative needs which include reporting requirements, and systems in place to effectively stabilize and grow the department. The AVP develops and implements strategic and tactical, short and long term Human Resources plans for Emerson College to ensure a quality client experience and operational efficiency. In particular, The AVP will focus on processes, procedures and technology to provide Service and Operational Excellence to the entire Emerson Community. The AVP is responsible for internal and external analysis and assessment of HR systems, policies, procedures, operations, compensation and benefits ensuring that HR processes are efficient, legally compliant and sustainable. The AVP leads and supervises HR professionals that are responsible for developing and administering HR systems, programs, policies and processes. They are responsible for developing HR staff while providing direct daily support and guidance. They will lead the HR team in identifying areas for process improvement. The successful candidate will poses strong interpersonal, people management, and influencing skills along with critical analytical ability and creative problem solving skills. AVP will partner with the HR Leadership Team in building a culture of excellence.

Primary Duties, Responsibilites, and TasksRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Education (including hardware, software, and equipment)

•Bachelor degree in a business or an analytical discipline and minimum 15 years of related experience
•Considerable professional human resources experience across multiple HR functional areas
•Acumen in program and project management
•Experience in operation management with HR
•Strong technical background and prior experience with HR/Payroll systems such as Workday Consulting expertise and negotiating skills in an evolving and rapid paced professional culture
•Union and non-union experience
•Effective application of human resources best practices, principles, concepts
•Seamlessly managing multiple competing and shifting priorities
•Demonstrated ability to coach, train and influence diverse groups of HR professionals, and build and sustain professional business relationships
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Thought leadership, conflict management and critical thinking skills essential, as well as ability to effectively problem solve, gather and analyze data, and make sound judgments.

Preferred/Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Education (including hardware, software, and equipment)

•At least 5-7 years of experience in managing multiple teams or business functions
•Previous experience managing multiple projects and working with various departments within an organization
•The successful candidate will have a balance of people skills and analytical skills with demonstrable evidence of achieving measurable results and influencing change.

Individual Work Activities

Facilitate Technology Solutions
•Collaborate with the HR team and IT partners to provide HR technology solutions that align with the College strategy.
•Conduct ongoing analysis and assessment of HR Workday, procedures and operations and ensure legal compliance and efficiency. Partner with HR Team to be sure Workday supports existing policies.
•Lead the HR systems analysts and work closely with IT to provide enhancements and maintenance of Workday. Identify and implement system process improvements, coordinate benchmarks, dashboards and Key Performance Indicators
•Assess current Service Center Model and evaluate effectiveness as a first point of contact for staff and faculty.
•Build short and long term strategies for Workday upgrades and continued enhancements and improvements.
•Collaborate with HR leadership in designing strategic and tactical direction.
•Lead system analysts in developing thoughtful and future focused reports and dashboards.

Job Duties

Individual Work Activities

Lead/Manage Business Operations
•Design and implement business processes and procedures to support the employee life cycle. Focus on the delivery of Service Excellence to customers.
•Work closely with compensation and benefits to refresh philosophy, identify long term strategy to address the competitive needs of employees and the financial goals of the College. Ensure business processes and reporting support requirements.
•Develop and implement an HR business continuity plan and ensure operational risks are mitigated.
•Manage projects from start to finish and determine the allocation of resources appropriately.
•Manage a group of HR professionals and identify opportunities for development and improvement.
•Ensure all policies and procedures are documented and align with Workday business processes.
•Manage the Leave Administrator, the leave process inside and outside of Workday, legal compliance and ensure clients are receiving excellent service and guidance.
•Function as advisor and thought leader.
•All other duties as assigned.
