General Summary

The Honors College seeks a full-time graduate assistant for the 2019-2020 academic year with the possibility of continuation through the 2020-2021 academic year. The candidate selected for this position will have the opportunity to work closely with the Honors team (administrators, faculty, staff, and students) on a variety of assignments, including but not limited to website, newsletter, social media, weekly email, and other communications-based tasks. The Communications GA serves as the team lead for the Communications undergraduate student fellows, who assist with team assignments. Other functions and responsibilities may be assigned based on The Honors College's needs and the selected candidate's interests.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Specific assignments will include weekly updates regarding Honors events; collaborating with the programming team to produce flyers and other media to advertise Honors events; overseeing and assisting with revisions and updates to the College website; overseeing and assisting with photography, including editing and distribution; overseeing and assisting with production and distribution of the newsletter; overseeing and assisting with alumni outreach, including maintaining alumni database. The GA may also collaborate with other teams on recruitment or event planning as needed, as well as provide academic or other support services for The Honors College.

With the guidance of one or more administrators and/or faculty members, the candidate selected will perform a mixture of duties necessary to the successful operation of an academic entity. These may include instruction, research, public service, administration, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The selected graduate assistant will
· demonstrate exemplary skills in oral and written communication
· be comfortable managing and editing both print and social media
· demonstrate exceptional organization, project, and time management skills
· work well in a highly collaborative environment.

Other Desired Qualifications

* Interest in working in a higher education setting
* Experience with an Honors Program or College
* Experience working in an office environment and/or leading student work groups
* Experience working with student organizations and/or academic advising
* Familiarity with various computer programs and social media

Working Conditions

Collaborative and supportive environment. Anticipated work assignment will be in The Honors College with some opportunities to work with students in other settings for student events.


Work Location: Ypsilanti
Building: 511 W. Forest Avenue
Shift: 20 hrs/wk variable

Benefits:
For a full-time GA appointment, the University provides a tuition scholarship for up to 18 credit hours in each academic year (September 1 to August 31) of the assistantship.

For graduate assistants who are appointed to part-time positions and for GAs who begin employment after the start of the semester, the number of credit hours covered by the award will be prorated.
