Job Duties

Accompanist – Dance and Musical Theatre – East Carolina University School of Theatre and Dance (NAST accredited) seeks a highly accomplished piano accompanist for a well-established and rigorous university BFA programs in Dance and Musical Theatre. Responsibilities include providing expert piano accompaniment for dance classes in both ballet and modern disciplines as well as serving as the accompanist for Musical theatre classes, vocal lessons, and productions for the ECU/Loessin Playhouse and the Archie Burnett Studio Theatre productions during the academic year.

This position is responsible for the support services for the BFA Dance Performance Degree, the BFA Theatre Arts in Musical Theater Degree, and the co-curricular production mission of the SoTD’s ECU/Loessin Playhouse and Dance Theatre, this position may also be asked to teach one course per semester on an as-needed basis.

Minimum Education/Experience

Master’s degree in music or related field is required. In addition, qualified applicants must have at least three years experience in playing for all styles of musical theatre repertoire, excellent sight-reading skills, and substantial experience in accompanying for dance and/or musical theatre productions at the university or professional level.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Master of Music in Piano performance or comparable degree (MFA preferred). Additional desirable skills include background in voice (specifically Contemporary Commercial Music singing styles), music direction, music improvisation, music technologies and software, and percussion skills.
