23-Jun-2019 Close All Job Summary The Office of Admissions welcomes applications for the Executive Director of Admissions. This position is responsible for providing strategic leadership and management to the CU Boulder Office of Admissions and for the implementation of all activities and responsibilities related to the office, including overall operational, fiscal, administrative, and compliance oversight. This position is responsible for the management and coordination of all admissions-related programs, services and activities and will work directly with the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management in the development and administration of all existing and new admission policies and procedures which support overall campus enrollment goals.
This position develops and implements a recruitment plan for over 60,000 graduate and undergraduate applicants to attract, enroll and retain an academically talented and diverse student population meeting institutional enrollment goals. The Executive Director provides leadership in recruiting and enrolling a diverse, academically talented class of students demonstrating experience with current best practices, including integrated marketing and branding and web-based recruitment systems. This position is responsible for the analysis of information and data necessary to formulate strategic university-wide admissions and recruiting plans and goals. The Executive Director has overall administrative responsibility for the two divisions within the undergraduate admissions office (Recruitment and Operations/System Integration). The Executive Director is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating programs and the operational systems to support recruitment, selection, operations, and communication activities related to admissions.
The Executive Director is a key member of the Enrollment Management team and ensures that recruitment strategies are designed to meet and support the enrollment efforts of the university. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Lead the Admissions senior management team responsible for developing and implementing CU Boulder’s annual recruitment plans.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute programs and activities that support the enrollment goals, mission, and objectives of CU-Boulder.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the Office of Admissions in the marketing, recruitment, processing and application review efforts including the development and implementation of a comprehensive admission strategy that attracts, recruits, admits and enrolls academically talented and diverse resident/non-resident freshman, transfer, and graduate students.
  • Develop strategies to meet institutional enrollment goals by actively participating in collegiate and university enrollment planning and management processes.
  • Review and approve the marketing and communication plan to work in tandem with the recruitment plan to accomplish goals.
  • Provide leadership, management, and assessment of on-campus and off-campus recruitment plans and activities.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of all programs and events conducted by the admissions office, including programming for prospective students, admitted students, transfer students, graduate students, high school counselors and community college advisers.

  • Develop and present new strategies, programs and technologies that will advance the recruitment, operations, and outreach goals of the office and the University to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management for consideration.
  • Assess admissions services and programs to promote innovation and improvement to keep pace with a rapidly changing, complex, and competitive admissions environment.
  • Work with the Office of Data Analytics to provide the office with data analysis and market research which will assist in recruitment efforts and real-time decision making.
  • Integrate predictive modeling, geographic information and systems technology into all appropriate recruitment activities to assist in meeting targeted enrollment goals.

  • Oversee the admissions application/selection review process, responsibilities include the development and implementation of admission policies and practices related to the evaluation of freshman and transfer undergraduate applications.
  • Serve as the final authority on the rendering of admission decisions and provides leadership for an efficient and effective review process for the colleges, schools, programs and the campus.
  • Meet enrollment goals for academic colleges/schools, student support programs and enrichment programs.
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners to determine academic honors selection and scholarship selection criteria.
  • Participate in the development of recruiting, communications, and marketing strategies; review and revise domestic and international undergraduate admissions application and decisions processes; and advise and support graduate and professional colleges regarding their processes related to making admission decisions.

  • Work with the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management regarding the creation and leadership of recruitment activities that target the objectives and strategies of the Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Admissions, International Admissions, Outreach and Recruitment (including Territory Management), the Center for Academic Success and Engagement (CASE), Tele-counseling, Alumni Relations, Academic Affairs, Access and Diversity and transfer students.

  • Build strong working partnerships with the Enrollment Management offices (and Bursars Office) to ensure seamless transitions along the enrollment continuum.

  • Serve as the appointing authority and oversee all personnel actions for the department. This includes providing leadership and managing the overall work product of a staff of over 80 full-time employees and over 50 student and temporary employees.

  • Serve as a leader in the field of admissions on the state and national levels. Travel and represent the University at outreach activities and university programs.

  • Assist the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management to ensure that the University is in full compliance with all NCAA and Pac 12 rules and regulations that pertain to the admission of student-athletes.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in leading a large and complex organization and possess a deep understanding of best practices associated with digital marketing for recruitment and retention. Experience with cutting-edge technology and the use of sophisticated data analysis to inform strategic decisions is essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to evaluate efforts to modernize the standards and practices for how a university recruits, markets and communicates to a highly diverse student body.
The successful candidate for this position will also possess the ability to build consensus and a sense of teamwork across a variety of campus and external constituents. The Executive Director will have the capacity to understand and work collaboratively and effectively with all those who have an interest in developing, implementing and evaluating an effective admissions and enrollment strategy for the University. In addition, the Executive Director must be articulate and persuasive in talking with both internal and external audiences, including parents, prospective students, high school guidance counselors, and college advisors.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 6 years of progressively more responsible and independent management experience in a collegiate admissions office at an institution with an enrollment of at least 10,000, with at least 3 years at the associate director level or higher.
  • 4 years of supervisory/leadership experience, including team-oriented management and a demonstrated ability to build consensus among diverse constituencies.
  • Excellent written and communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills, public relations experience and experience working with university partners who support the admissions office in the recruitment and retention of students.
  • 4 years of experience with technology and database systems used to identify prospective students. Demonstrated knowledge of current technology and software used in student recruitment and admissions.
  • Demonstrated experience inspiring culturally and ethnically diverse communities of students. Ability to work collaboratively and inclusively with a variety of diverse audiences and constituencies.
  • Personal and professional integrity, including the ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Extensive knowledge of policies and procedures related to recruitment and undergraduate admissions.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA and athletic recruiting requirements.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and successfully pass motor vehicle records, financial and criminal background checks.

  • Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Student Information System, Slate, and other related admissions office technologies.
  • Working knowledge of Pac 12 athletic recruiting requirements.
