01-May-2019 Close All Job Summary The CU Bookstore at CU Boulder welcomes applications for a Finance/Accounting Assistant Director. This position exists to serve as Controller for the complex retail operations of the CU Bookstore and Imaging Services, with annual revenues exceeding $20 million, and is directly responsible for the financial strategy, systems, processes, guidelines, rules and standards that are mission-critical in the ongoing operation of the business unit. The primary functions of this position are: responsibility for providing financial and controllership functions, including general accounting, internal and external financial reporting, internal control, activity-based posting, working capital management, planning and analysis including profitability analysis, strategic financial planning, and budget process management for both departments as well as oversight of operations for Imaging Services. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be Supervisory Responsibilities: Bookstore
  • Supervise the Book Store Accounting Manager and financial and accounting activities; including payables, receivables, general ledger, budgeting, and cash management.
  • Define/create budget, income, and expense statement process.
  • Utilize Cognos application (CU-Data) for departmental reporting.
  • Provide financial analysis.
  • Monitor statements and analyze data.
  • Identify trends.
  • Increase efficiencies.
  • Realign procedures.
  • Provide guidance.
  • Develop and monitor procedures necessary to ensure adequate internal controls.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Imaging Services
  • Supervise Imaging Services Manager and the operations of Print Services, the Ink Spot and the Testing and Assessment Center.
  • Provide supervision for the Imaging Services financial and accounting activities; including payables, receivables, general ledger, budgeting, and cash management,
Other
  • Participate with senior management and represent the CU Book Store and Imaging Services as appropriate.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the University, the State and industry.
  • Assist the Director and Associate Director with strategic planning and training/implementation plans for new POS & Retail software enhancements.
  • Work with CU-Data (Cognos) development team to continue the expansion of the suite of financial reports available to our departments.
  • Create and maintain automated JE process for allocation of overhead to revenue generating departments, along with monthly budget uploads, with the Controller's office.
  • Manage Book Store and Imaging Services' activities such as physical inventory, design, development, and preparation of special reports, year-end closing and the budget process.
  • Assist and manage special projects, contracts, procurement process of fixed assets, and strategic planning process.
  • Evaluate, develop, and/or negotiate the proactive collaboration and partnerships with internal and external operations —such as VitalSource/Verba, PrismRBS, Credit Card clearing (Payware & CyberSource), EDI, University systems (Oracle & PeopleSoft), Pearson, MHHE, Nebraska Book Company, and MBS.
  • Ensure contract provisions are beneficial to the University and monitored appropriately.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Management Information Systems or a closely related field.
    • A combination of work experience administering a program with responsibility for accounting, budget and policy planning, development and implementation which provided the same kind, amount and level of knowledge acquired in the required education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 4 years of professional experience administering a program with responsibility for accounting, budget and policy planning, development and implementation.
    • 1 year of the required experience must have included analysis of existing and proposed information systems and long-range management information system planning.
