29-Apr-2019 Close All Job Summary The Office of Admissions welcomes applications for an Admission Specialist. This position reports to a Senior Assistant Director of Admissions responsible for the Office Services Team in Student Recruitment Services. This intern position serves the Office's front-line by meeting with prospective students and families, responding to phone and e-mail inquiries and also handles many reception/front desk duties. Additionally, it involves participation in the development and administration of admission policies and procedures, and the coordination of admission-related programs and activities. This position serves on admission committees and participates in the admission decision process. The admission specialist is expected to be familiar with and observe professional ethics expectations including policies of the Office of Admissions and codes of conduct of professional organizations in which the University holds membership. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Provide admission-related information to prospective students, their families, and high school counselors by telephone, in-office interviews, and electronic correspondence.
    • Admission-related information includes advising on which high school and/or college courses and level of test scores a prospective freshman or transfer student needs in order to be eligible for admission to CU-Boulder.
    • This advising also includes referring prospective students with records lower than those needed for admission to CU-Boulder to either community colleges or the Boulder Division of Continuing Education depending on the particular record of the student.
  • Cover reception desk and respond to admissions inquiries via phone and e-mail.
  • Represent CU-Boulder at on-campus information sessions; give campus tours on back-up basis; assist in outreach and recruitment programs; review freshman and transfer applications; and travel throughout Colorado to represent CU-Boulder at college fairs.
What You Should Know
  • This is a 100%-time, full-time position, and a limited term, 1-year appointment.
  • There may be opportunities for permanent, full-time employment based on department vacancies and performance.
    • However, continued employment is NOT guaranteed beyond this 1-year appointment.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by the start of employment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Some evening and weekend work is required.

  • Recent graduate who has already represented a university in some capacity (for example, as a Student Ambassador, Resident Advisor, Orientation Leader, etc.)
  • As a role model for prospective students, the candidate should have a strong and positive university experience as both a student and campus community member.
