The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenured Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an innovative, externally-funded research program to examine infant and child neurodevelopmental, cognitive, behavioral, social/affective and general health outcomes, with emphasis on the influence of prenatal drug exposures, maternal, environmental and genomic factors on brain and behavioral development. Applicants with experience in translational research that integrates multiple disciplines to study the effects of prenatal substance use on mothers and their infants from pregnancy through early childhood are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will possess expertise in neural, cognitive, behavioral and physiological assessments of infants, children and adults, in parent-infant dyadic interaction tasks to assess attachment, stress responsivity, and neurobehavior, and in relevant biomarker modalities (e.g. brain imaging, electrophysiology, autonomic, endocrine, and immune system function, and genomics).
In addition, the successful candidate is expected to direct and manage our Neuroscience Core Lab that supports the research of other Departmental investigators, including consultation in project design, development and wet lab support for the sample acquisition, processing, management and storage of blood, urine, saliva, and fecal biosamples.

Educational Requirements

Applicants should have a PhD in Biological Psychology.

Qualifications and Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated ability to write successful grant applications and publish in refereed scientific journals.
