Job Description Summary

The primary duties of the Front Desk Assistant are to provide receptionist services and the first–line of emergency response at the 24-hour Front Desk. This position requires a high-level of customer service to students, staff, and visitors.

This position also serves as a communication center during any emergency situations that may arise. The Desk Assistant reports directly to the Director of Residence Life and Residence Hall Managers and works collaboratively with the Resident Assistant staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Monitor the entrances of the building to make sure only residents and their guests access the building
•Monitor security cameras within the building
•Answer questions for residents and guests
•Clean the building
•Check out equipment to residents
•Sign over packages to appropriate resident

Required Qualifications

•Minimum 2.00 Cumulative GPA
•Must live in housing during semester(s) of employment
•Must be able to work every other weekend
•Must be able to work late night/early morning shifts
•You must not be on any college probation (academic or social) during the period of employment
•Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours with the College

You must be enrolled in at least 6 credits at the College with a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Contact hours will not be used to meet the 6 credit hour minimum.

OR

You must be enrolled or continuing your education with Ferris State University or Michigan State University on the campus of SMC and be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and at least 1 credit hour with SMC.

K.Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
L.Feeling. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
M.Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other employees accurately, loudly, or quickly.
N.Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.

The physical requirements of this position.

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision.

The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures
