This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before 07/30/2020, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. Incumbent works 10 months per year and is paid over 12 months. Anticipated month(s) off will be December 16 - 31, and June 15 - July 30.

Under general supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, will work to prevent athletic injuries by evaluating the student-athlete’s physical condition and establishing a proper conditioning program. When injuries do occur, the Assistant Athletic Trainer serves as the first responder by recognizing and evaluating the injury, and subsequently developing treatment and rehabilitation programs, incorporating the appropriate therapeutic modalities and use of rehabilitation and exercise equipment.

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,318 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,976 - $5,576 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalent to bachelor’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Course work must include completion of the Board of Certification (BOC) curriculum requirements. Must possess and maintain certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and first aid. Must stay current with these certifications and submit proof to Head Athletic Trainer. Must be able to obtain a California driver’s license within 10 days of hire. SDSU Defensive Driving within one month of hire.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • Experience with track and field at collegiate, international, and/or professional level as a certified Athletic Trainer for two years beyond Bachelor’s degree, which may include a graduate assistantship.
  • If no track and field experience, then collegiate experience in golf, lacrosse, water polo, swimming & diving, soccer, softball, volleyball, or basketball.
  • Proficiency with Biodex, SwimEx, and Alter-G.
  • Additional credentials of advanced study in an athletic training-related subject matter. Examples are: functional evaluation/rehabilitation, biomechanical assessments, instrumented or manual soft tissue mobilization, Kinesiotape, etc.
  • Prior experience performing inventory, budget, and insurance duties in a sports medicine environment.
  • Experience with medical supply vendors, quality, and costs
