Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track faculty members at the rank of Lecturer to teach elementary and intermediate Spanish courses (1000 and 2000 levels), with a 4/4 teaching load.
The successful candidate will teach primarily undergraduate, lower-division Spanish language courses, and, occasionally, at the 3000 or 4000 levels in field of specialization, if the needs of the department so require.

Educational Requirements for the Position

Must have an M.A. in Spanish (minimum 18 graduate hours in Spanish); native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English; minimum of 2 years college/university level teaching experience using task-based and proficiency-based instructional methods.

Experience Required for the Position

Demonstrated instructional excellence; knowledge of current concepts and methods in foreign language learning and instruction, including those related to online course delivery and computer assisted language learning; experience and/or willingness to teach online courses; familiarity with ACTFL standards and OPI scales; outstanding interpersonal skills; demonstrated success working collaboratively with a team; willingness to participate in and contribute to goals of department. Desirable qualifications are familiarity/experience with the following: Languages for Specific Purposes; instruction of heritage speakers.
