DESCRIPTION

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is the leading unit within the UC San Diego Health cluster of Student Health and Wellbeing, delivering campus-based mental health services to over 38,000 registered UCSD undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students. CAPS multicultural, multidisciplinary, and student-centered staff strives to deliver community based, culturally proficient counseling services, outreach programming, consultation, research, and training opportunities.

Rooted in Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, CAPS services support the academic mission of the University aimed at student success and retention and works toward the maintenance of an inclusive and healthy living and learning environment for individuals to flourish as they pursue their academic and career goals. CAPS is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services and the Post-doctoral Resident Training Program is APPIC affiliated. CAPS is fully committed to self-examination, peer review, and quality improvement through the utilization of data, outcome, and client experience measurements.

UCSD CAPS is seeking an experienced mental health professional with experience in reducing barriers to student mental health care in a multicultural university environment, to provide counseling and clinical services for a diverse student population. Primary responsibilities for this position will be addressing the mental health needs of students to foster their matriculation and academic success at UCSD.

This position requires proven knowledge, training, expertise, and demonstrated sustained engagement in working with under-represented students and young adults, towards their personal development, well-being, and academic success. This licensed professional performs psychological assessments towards diagnosis and the formulation of a treatment plan, the provision of brief psychotherapy and referral of students for appropriate level of care in an interdisciplinary, high-volume setting. Also participates in after hours on-call and on campus urgent care coverage.

The incumbent provides consultation to faculty, staff and administration, engages in mental health promotion and education to a diverse college population, and delivers community-based preventive outreach including psycho-educational programming and evaluation. Also provides supervision and training of CAPS Post-doctoral Residents and maintains quality assurance and improvement in compliance standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an accredited program in clinical psychology and completion of an APA accredited Internship

  • Current, valid license in California as a psychologist. Out-of-state licensed psychologists have 180 days to complete licensure requirements in the State of California.

  • Bilingual fluency in both English and Mandarin languages to provide therapy.

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable laws and standards of professional conduct.

  • Knowledge of the current laws, procedures, and the American Psychological Association ethical principles that govern the practice of psychology in the State of California.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct brief individual and group counseling and psychotherapy.

  • Ability to relate warmly, humanely, sensitively and empathetically to others.

  • Working knowledge of electronic medical/mental health records systems (EMR or EHR).

  • Ability to work well and energetically in a fast paced environment with changing priorities, serving a large volume of students effectively on an appointment or walk-in bases

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

University Counseling Center experience.

  • Must successfully complete credential verification and background check in order to be granted practicing privileges.
  • Must work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for after-hours emergency coverage.
