The Staff Psychologist's purpose is to help plan, direct and implement multi culturally sensitive psychological services delivery to the campus community and its broader constituency. This purpose is enacted through supervisory, educational, consultative and psychotherapeutic involvement and intervention. While the primary constituency served is the Lehigh student body and the goal is to maintain or enhance intrapsychic and interpersonal health, the purpose is achieved through collaboration and consultation with faculty, staff, parents and others in addition to the direct service provided to students.

Accountabilities:
  1. Consultation, outreach, and education/academic teaching.
    • Provide psychological consultation services to students, parents, faculty, coaches, staff and related constituency
    • Coordinate provision of liaison relationships and services to various offices and specialty groups within the University (i.e, Women’s Center, LGBTQIA Office, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Residential Life, International Student Office)
    • Provide psycho-educational outreach programs for graduate and undergraduate students in residence halls, fraternities, sororities, and other student clubs and organizations
    • Provide performance enhancement interventions and additional psychological services for students, student groups and organizations
  2. Provide group and individual psychotherapy and counseling, psychological evaluation and assessment, treatment consultation, recommendation and referral for graduate and undergraduate students at Lehigh
    • Participate in intake process for clients, conducting triage evaluations and assessments with referral for treatment if appropriate
    • Provide group, couples, family and individual psychotherapy as appropriate to the University setting and in keeping with current resources
    • Utilize psychological instruments and provide evaluations for students as appropriate
    • Perform case management; referrals, correspondence, scheduling, treatment planning, case conceptualization and reviewing session video
    • Chart case files and manage files
    • Participate in informal staff consultation and formal weekly case conference sessions focused on clinical treatment
  3. Training and supervision
    • Provide weekly individual supervision and consultation with trainee(s)
    • Conduct weekly topical or process seminars and group supervision meetings when applicable; provide additional consultation as needed with focus on assisting the trainee in developing his or her professional and counseling skills
    • Attend weekly case conference with Clinical Staff for ongoing professional development
    • Receive regular consultation and supervision with the Director
  4. Provide alcohol and other drug and addictions services
    • Provide alcohol and other drug and addictions assessment, feedback, treatment and referral for voluntary and mandated clients
    • Educate students, parents, faculty and staff on alcohol, drug and other addiction related issues via outreach programs and consultation
    • Provide consultation and assistance to the parents, faculty, staff and others concerned about a student's substance use or addictive behaviors
    • Work with students who are concerned about a friend or family member's problem with alcohol or other drug use and addictions; identify ways to approach the person
  5. Provide 24 hour, 7 days per week crisis intervention, threat assessment and risk management
    • Serve in "on call" capacity
    • Provide crisis and "walk-in" assessment, therapy and consultation
    • Consult with professional colleagues and critical administrative staff
    • Make appropriate referrals to internal and external care providers
    • Follow-up for treatment and management
    • Document appropriate information for legal review
  6. Professional activities and development
    • Study professional literature and attend professional seminars/trainings/conferences to develop and maintain competence as psychologist and integrate roles of scientist and practitioner
    • Receive regular consultation and supervision with the Director and attend weekly case conference with Clinical Staff
Qualifications:
  1. Doctoral Degree in Psychology or Counseling is required
  2. Must be a Licensed Psychologist
  3. Three to five years related work experience
  4. Specialty training and experience in a university counseling center preferred
  5. Experience working with multiculturally diverse populations desirable
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  7. Solid writing ability and organizational skills
  8. Solid analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
  9. Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software
  10. Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
Special Considerations:
  • This position works with minors
  • Periods of high volume/workload may be required
  • Required to be on call
  • Occasional evening, holiday or weekend hours; outreach typically occurs during evening and sometimes weekend, group therapy often occurs after hours
  • Occasional travel to attend training
