Director for Corporate and Foundation Giving

Works with corporations and foundations to secure gifts that advance SIU Carbondale. The director will manage an assignment of donor prospects, engaging in personal cultivation and solicitation for the university. The successful candidate will be a member of the university development staff and will report to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Relations. The candidate will work closely with faculty and staff to develop strategies to solicit support for key university priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities: Provide overall direction of external corporate and foundation giving activities intended to support SIU Carbondale.

Participate in the identification, acquisition and stewardship of major gift opportunities to enhance educational opportunities for students and programs.

Assist other Development and Alumni Relations and university staff members in initiating, developing and maintaining relationships with alumni, friends, donors, corporate and foundation representatives, and other individuals expressing interest in furthering the interests of the University.

Solicit and coordinate input from multiple campus units to develop, write and ultimately deliver major gift proposals to corporations and foundations for funding.

Provide other duties, including ad hoc and ongoing leadership for specific duties or programs, as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Relations (Director of Development) to address prioritized fund-raising projects and efforts.


 Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years professional experience in fundraising is required. A track record of successful experience in fundraising solicitations and seeking corporate/foundation gifts is required. Excellent writing, listening, and speaking skills are required, as well as strong organizational and time-management skills, computer competence, adaptability, and the ability to work in a collaborative, team-orientated environment. Must be willing to travel extensively.

Preferred Qualifications: A master's degree is preferred. The successful candidate should possess proven leadership and organizational skills, experience with comprehensive campaigns, a strong record of success in raising significant major gifts; and the personal energy, enthusiasm and patience to develop a comprehensive development program that continually surpasses goals and overcomes obstacles. Higher education advancement (development or alumni), healthcare, or arts organization experience preferred.
