TheDepartment of Pathology is distinguished for its over 100 year history ofseminal scientific discoveries, educational and clinical accomplishments.  We employ nearly 100 diverse, subspecialtyfocused faculty from basic scientists to clinical scholars and educators. Ourprimary adult site of practice is the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH). Itis the #1 hospital in Colorado and # 15 in the US, as designated by US News andWorld Report. UCH is the major academic (teaching) hospital of the UC HealthSystem. Our primary child site of practice is the Children's Hospital ofColorado, which is amongst the top tier of specialty pediatric hospitalsnationally. The Department has 25 residents and up to 10 fellows per year, indiverse areas including: Pediatric Pathology, Surgical Pathology,Cytopathology, Forensic Pathology, Molecular Pathology, Transfusion Medicineand Blood Banking, and Hematopathology.

We seek to recruit afellowship trained and actively practicing academic pathologist with a passionfor undergraduate and graduate education in medicine. Preferred candidates willhave  demonstrated expertise in medicaleducation including the development and application of a pathology curriculumfor undergraduate and graduate medical education. The successful candidate willserve as the Vice Chair of Education, reporting to the Chair of the Department.She/he will also be the Core Educator and Content Steward for Pathology,reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Education in the School of Medicine.Additionally, the Vice Chair of Pathology Education will supervise twoEducation Program Coordinators and work closely with separate Directors of thePathology Residency and Fellowship Programs.  She/he will also be expected to maintain a ~50%FTE clinical practice in AP or CP pathology, depending on her/his subspecialtyexpertise.

Nature of Work:

The idealcandidate must be board certified by the American Board of Pathology in AP, CPor both and have completed a GME certified fellowship. If the subspecialty hasboard certifications, the candidate must be and maintain certifications in thatarea. The successful candidate should be eligible for an academic rank from Associateto Full Professor. Evidence of an ability to work well within amultidisciplinary team and provide one on one as well as case based teachingfor medical students, residents and fellows. The candidate will lead thedepartments educational initiatives for the subspecialty within the School ofMedicine and seek to enhance our interactions and visibility with medicalstudents especially during the development and maturation of new curriculum.

Thephysician leader of education must also serve as a mentor and role model forour residents and fellows. We place a strong emphasis on professionalism, teampractice, and lifelong learning, thus we expect contributions from all facultyto our practice, educational and academic teaching missions. This position isexpected in the regular, tenure eligible track. Thus, academic scholarship willbe an important component of the position. As a physician, she/he must be ableto obtain a full unrestricted medical license in the State of Colorado, andcredentialing through CU Medicine and our affiliated hospital partners.

Anindependent research effort, with external grant funding, is not required. Opportunitiesfor advancement and participation in research will be abundant.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Boardcertified in anatomic or clinical pathology or both, with successful completionof a GME approved Fellowship in some area of AP or CP.  We seek an individual with outstandingcommunication, teaching, management and leadership skills. 


Preferred Qualifications:

At least 7 years ofexperience as an independent attending pathologistis desirable. Depending on the skill set of the final candidate, additionalresponsibilities and leadership opportunities may be available.
