The UGA Facilities Management Division is the largest of 7 divisions reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration. The exceptional staff of over 800 personnel within the Facilities Management Division manage, operate and maintain campus landscapes, buildings and infrastructure to promote the long-term sustainability of the University of Georgia.

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualificaitons.

Preferred Qualifications

High School diploma or GED Completion Certificate. Minimum of 2 years mechanical/ electrical skills.

Position Summary

This is skilled technical work at the journeyman level involving operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing high pressure boilers (gas & electrode) and their associated equipment, including but not limited to pneumatic controls, VFD’s, Feed water pumps, condensate transfer pumps, actuators, flow, level & pressure transmitters, electronic controls, and associated software, and GE FANUCIntellusion.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

*Ability to troubleshoot and repair high pressure boilers, emergency generators, air compressors, air dryers, water treatment systems, fuel oil systems, valve, DA tanks & associated equipment.
*Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to work from blueprints and sketches.
*Ability to understand and apply standard trade practices in performing work.
*Knowledge of electrical duties such as the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical motors, calibration of gauges, lighting, signs and electrical outlets.

Physical Demands

Standard requirements of the trades: lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, working over head, climbing stairs, using regular and extended ladders throughout 8 hour work shift. Lift up to 75 lbs during a work shift. Work under adverse conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc).

Mechanical Duties: Maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of high pressure boilers, emergency generators, air compressors, air dryers, water treatment system, fuel oil system, valves, DA Tanks and associated equipment.

Electrical Duties: Maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical motors, calibration of gauges, lighting, signs, and electrical outlets. Work could involve: wiring, conduit bending, soldering, pipe threading & brazing. Read and interpret wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and ladder logic.

Complete maintenance paperwork, maintain parts inventory through UGAMART purchasing or FMD purchasing agent, inspections, confined space permits, generate and complete preventive maintenance work orders through AiM.
