The mission of the Office of Institutional Diversity is to provide institutional leadership to the focused effort to enhance and maintain a diverse and inclusive environment for learning, teaching, research and service at The University of Georgia. OID goals include:
Enhancing diversity awareness and education through training and learning opportunities for faculty, students and staff throughout the university. Promoting awareness of UGA’s diversity efforts by supporting diversity related events across the UGA campuses. Establishing and defining strategic partnerships between the Office of Institutional Diversity and other units. Identifying and obtaining additional resources that will enhance and support institutional diversity endeavors.

Position Summary

The Business Manager I serves as the business manager for the Peach State Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (Peach State LAMP) in the Office of Institutional Diversity. The major responsibilities include managing the business, fiscal, and office activities of a regional project and coordinating all the administrative aspects of a program budget with multiple sub-awards. This includes managing all budgeting, accounting, and other financial functions related to Peach State LSAMP which is an Alliance of six public institutions in the University System of Georgia, and provide the LSAMP Director and Alliance institutions with updated information pertaining to their budgets, budget justifications, and invoice submission. This individual will need strong interpersonal skills to work with various faculty, staff, students and administrators at the college level and able to handle accounting, grant and office management duties. The Business Manager I will need to have worked with individuals from diverse populations and preferred applicants will have experience working in a university setting. The Business Manager I position is a grant funded position, and is therefore subject to grant renewal. The current grant is a 5-year award of $4 million dollars (approximately $800,000 per year) and started September, 2016.

Education, Experience, and Certification requirements are as follows:
Bachelor’s degree in a business, finance or accounting area with five years of experience required; or Associate’s degree in a business, finance, or accounting area with seven years of experience.

Provide management, financial accountability and fiscal integrity for the Peach State LSAMP grants and collaborative program budgets. Supervise all accounting functions to ensure Fiscal Year is closed out properly. Assist with the fiscal planning and management of the annual budgets for each of the subaward budgets, projecting financial needs and overseeing annual grant budgets for the LSAMP administrative, student participants, overhead, and foundation accounts. Manage and direct the day-to-day business functions and fiscal activities. Assist with grant budgets, proposal preparation and submission, coordinate materials for awards, and prepare annual financial reports.

Supervise UGA LSAMP Campus Coordinator and student employees. Serve as an initial point of contact for the Peach State LSAMP office. Serve as liaison with the LSAMP institutions’ (including UGA’s) Sponsored Programs, Contracts & Grants, Sponsored Programs, Financial Aid as needed. Serve as liaison with UGA departments such as IT, Human Resources, Physical Plant, Business Services, UGA Foundation, Telephones and all others as needed.

Act as executive assistant to the Alliance Director. Maintain relevant listserv and email distribution lists for faculty and staff communication. Reviews and if appropriate approves financial transactions of UGA LSAMP Campus Coordinator. Coordinates with other UGA staff serving various research programs with Alliance Director and Principle Investigators.

Reconcile accounts monthly to ensure proper coding of all revenues and expenditures and to ensure that expenditures are in compliance with stated policy and guidelines. Apply the university’s accounting and financial management principles in the procurement of materials, accounts receivable and accounts payable for all grant activities. Notify appropriate faculty and staff regarding balance discrepancies, problems and or trends with the grant accounts. Perform corrective actions (i.e., journal vouchers) to resolve identified inconsistencies Prepare all fiscal statements and financial reports based on month end data.
