Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

The position will require a person who can complete tasks involved in the C. elegans project. This is a developing project which will necessitate innovative thought and meticulous documentations of methods and reagents. Confidence in working as an individual and communication with others involved is key. In addition to the C. elegans project, it will be necessary to maintain the lab. This would require the upkeep of all safety records, lab inspections, and “chematix(the university’s chemical inventory tracking system for individual labs). The disposal of hazardous and biohazardous waste will be expected. Other duties will include monitoring lab supplies, autoclaving, cleaning glassware, and attending group meetings.

Contribute to the laboratory NIH-funded C. elegans metabolomics project. These duties will include assisting with sample preparation and protocol development, maintaining laboratory strains and bar-coding them in the Edison lab SciNote ELN, preparing buffers and reagents as needed, attending local meetings about the project, and general assistance to students and other staff on the project as needed. Significant contributions to the project will be recognized as a co-author on appropriate publications..

Percentage of time 50 Duties/Responsibilities


Laboratory Maintenance. Chemicals and supply stock quantities will need to be monitored and replacements ordered in a timely manner. Investigating and ordering new equipment will be expected along with repairs and service calls to existing equipment including but not limited to large particle flow cytometer, liquid handling robot, speed-vacuum evaporator, centrifuges, mass spectrophotometer, and HPLCs.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities


Assisting with other Edison lab projects, including sample preparation, buffer preparation, extraction of cells or tissues, protocol development, and laboratory record keeping. Regular participation in the Edison lab meetings is expected, along with sharing expertise to solve problems when possible.

Laboratory Safety. Record keeping and maintenance in this area as mandated by the University will be expected. Hazardous waste, biohazardous waste, and general laboratory safety will be covered. Proper storage, record keeping, and disposal of wastes will be required. Maintaining current and past records of lab members’ annual safety courses, Chematix chemical inventory, and specifications for annual laboratory inspections are also duties in this field.
