The School of Art & Art History (SAAH) is part of the division of Arts and Humanities at the University of Denver (DU) where it has offered instruction in visual arts since 1880. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, its programs include BA's in Art and Art History, an MA in Art History with an option to concentrate in museum studies, BFA's in Studio Art and pre-Art Conservation. Position Summary

The Studio Technician position provides health, safety and technical support to the School of Art & Art History (SAAH) with an emphasis in the areas of Ceramics and Sculpture.

The position will support faculty teaching and assist student learning in the following areas:
1) health and safety methods 2) tools and equipment use 3) material processes.

Responsible for the maintenance and repair of equipment as well as the training and oversight of student shop monitors in Ceramics and Sculpture. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and participate in ordering and purchasing. Available to assist faculty and students in all studio areas in SAAH, and willingness to learn new skills and gain knowledge related to both existing and new tools and equipment. Reports to full time faculty and the SAAH Director.

This is a 37.5 hours per week, 12 months per year benefited position.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience comprised of one or more of the following: vocational training, coursework in higher education, workshops in studio art, apprenticeship.
  • 2-3 years related employment experience, preferably in an artistic setting, including maintenance and operation of shop tools and equipment.
  • Robust knowledge of a variety of production and fabrication techniques; be familiar with practices related to current art practice including: fabrication, methodology and processes; experience and knowledge of working with a wide variety of materials.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • MFA
  • Strong knowledge of 3D modeling software such as Rhino and Blender.
  • Experience with digital fabrication tools including CNC routers, laser cutters, and 3D printers.
  • Experience with 3D printing protocols, output, setup and maintenance.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Suite, especially Illustrator.
  • Working Environment

    1. Standard office and studio environment.
    2. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
    3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

    Physical Activities

    1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
    2. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, wear PPE as needed to ensure proper health and safety practices and training.

    Work Schedule

    Flexible schedule with ability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
