Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Physical Plant reports directly to the Director of Physical Plant. Duties and responsibilities include managing the fast paced Physical Plant office, Supply Center, Receiving Bay and other tasks. The Assistant Director of Physical Plant assists the Director in various duties as needed to ensure the effective operations of the Physical Plant Department including but not limited to the operation of facility maintenance, housekeeping, and grounds maintenance. Provides off-hour support for College emergency calls in the event the Director or other staff are not available as part of the departmental emergency responders. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in management, construction, or a related field is preferred although over five years of relevant experience may be considered as an equivalent with a solid understanding of trades and facilities. Supervisory experience is preferred. Knowledge of local building ordinances, codes and regulations preferred.
Must have a current driver’s license with good driving record.

Must be able to work independently without constant supervision, make sound decisions, and have good judgment. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office computer skills and ability to adapt to other programs required such as Work Order Management systems, etc. Must be dependable and have good attendance. Must have a high level of professional appearance, demeanor and demonstrate respect to all individuals. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions, both in writing and in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, general public and other employees of the College required. Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, drawing or diagram formats including the ability to read and interpret blueprints and plans. Must have highly proficient organizing and planning skills. Must have strong customer service and teamwork orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, talk, or hear. May be required to work on and/or around slippery surfaces both indoors and out. Subject to working near machinery, power tools, and vehicles in motion. Lift, carry, push or pull a variety of tools, equipment, and materials up to 80lbs. Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch to gain access to pipes, wiring, and equipment. Handle a variety of hand and power tools. Near visual acuity needed to read equipment diagrams and inspect parts. Depth perception, filed of vision, and color vision needed in fitting and installing parts.

Occasional travel.
