In 1881, American entrepreneur and industrialist Joseph Wharton established the world’s first collegiate school of business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Duties

Reporting to the Director of Reunions and Classes, this position serves as a bridge liaison from MBA students to Alumni Relations and is responsible for the successful implementation of events that foster greater interaction between alumni and students. Enhancing the Wharton brand and increasing the visibility of Alumni Relations with the students is key to this position as well as creating partnerships with Student Life, WEMBA East and West Teams and key stakeholders across the School. The Associate Director has oversight for the execution of graduate student programs, including six Alumni Orientations, 14 Power Dinners, Pub Outside of Penn and young alumni regional events. In addition, this position contributes to the strategy, planning and execution of our flagship event, MBA Reunion Weekend. In collaboration with a Wharton Fund counterpart, the Associate Director has management of the 1st, 5th and 10th reunion classes and the identification and stewardship of a core group of volunteers for each class. Strong partnership with the Wharton Fund team on the achievement of reunion giving goals is critical. This role requires a collaborative team approach, creative thinking and initiative and the confidence to serve a sophisticated MBA student and young alumni population. A solid understanding of the importance of philanthropy to the achievement of institutional goals is desirable.

Responsibilities:
- MBA Student Engagement Forging relationships with students that will continue post-graduation and result in greater engagement with Wharton. Collaboration with key stakeholders across Wharton is critical to our success.
- Manage the Student and Young Alumni Engagement Initiative, a cross-school peer group whose mission is to execute an engagement strategy that supports continued involvement as young alumni.
- Coordinate and delivery programs and events for young alumni (1-5 years out).
- Contribute to the strategy, planning and execution of our flagship event, MBA Reunion Weekend. Effectively identify, recruit and steward a core group of volunteers for the 1st, 5th and 10th reunion classes in collaboration with Wharton Fund counterpart. Track metrics to support engagement and its impact upon reunion giving.
- Domestic travel to include 50 alumni visits. Plan and attend Pre/Non reunion events regionally.
- Collaborate with colleagues across External Affairs to secure a pipeline of alumni for MBA student programs. Work with MGO staff on prospect pool review.
- Work effectively with Student Life to increase access to MBA students and create a seamless student to alumni experience.

Qualifications

Bachelor s Degree and 3 to 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required; minimum of five years of work experience preferred. Demonstrated understanding of higher education practices and culture. Proven ability to engage in strategic thinking, planning and execution is required. Capacity to work with a significant degree of autonomy as part of a goal-orientated team is essential. Excellent written and oral presentation skills with a keen eye to detail. Must have ability to represent Wharton with a high level of professionalism to the MBA student and alumni population. Position requires travel and weekend work for events and programs.
