Position Description:
The American Language Center (ALC) provides English instruction to speakers of other languages and has four programmatic cost centers and an administrative cost center with an annual gross income of over $6 million. The Academic Intensive English Program (AIEP) and Intensive English Communication Program (IECP) offered through the ALC are the two largest of these cost centers with a combined revenue of over $4 million. In addition, incumbent would be responsible for providing support to other ALC programs, such as individual courses, short-term custom programs, and UNEX Writing Center. Reporting to the MSO-II, while under the general supervision of the Director of AIEP/IECP, the Administrative Assistant II has direct involvement in five major areas: A) Administrative support of the intensive programs; B) Student counseling, advising, and customer support; C) Direct support to instructors of the intensive programs, D) Financial Support; and E) Information gathering and dissemination.

The successful candidate must be flexible and adept at managing multiple and frequently changing priorities and be proactive in addressing ongoing and newly emerging tasks. The candidate must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends, especially during program start-up. This candidate must also have the ability to work at different UCLA Extension /ALC sites.

In the 2007 edition of U.S. News and World Report, UCLA Medical Center was ranked best in the West, as well as one of the top 3 hospitals in the United States alongside Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 15 of the 16 medical specialty areas examined, UCLA Medical Center ranked in the top 20.
