Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

Position Summary

This position is housed in the UNCG School of Education (SOE) Dean’s Office. The Project Manager will primarily support activities related to a funded 5-year grant project sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education (DoE). The grant project funding is currently through September 30, 2019, with the possibility of continuation. Project “Transforming Teaching Through Technology (T4)” will institute a model for reform that ensures teachers are prepared to teach all students, regardless of individual learning needs and socioeconomic status, to use technology to learn, to problem solve, and to create. By incorporating emerging technologies and strategies such as makerspaces, the project will prepare teacher candidates in all content areas, with emphasis on high need subjects such as science, technology, math and engineering, as well as literacy instruction and teaching English language learners and students with disabilities.

The Project Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of grant activities and assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) with grant administration. The person in this position is expected to use considerable judgment to perform work responsibilities, and must be able to work independently with limited direct supervision, and in collaboration with multiple stakeholders including the project team, parents, district teachers, youth, as well as UNCG faculty, students, staff and central offices.

The Project Manager will establish standard operating procedures and create efficient flow of operations for project activities. The Project Manager will be the point of contact for the project team, teacher participants, and other staff. Duties include budget management, personnel actions, processing payroll, creation and distribution of program materials, scheduling events, hiring program staff, coordinating participant and program registration, ordering program supplies and maintaining inventory, coordinating participant travel, communicating with project stakeholders and updating the project web site.

The Project Manager will be the primary budgetary contact for the grant, working closely with the School of Education’s Research Office, the Office of Contracts & Grants and the Office of Sponsored Programs. The person in this position will be responsible for financial record keeping, budget reconciliation and revisions, processing and tracking expenditures; processing EPAFs and other payroll; assisting with interim and final reports; grant and budgetary closeout. The Project Manager will also support research and evaluation activities such as helping with IRB documentation and consent forms, processing incentive payments, maintaining participant database, data collection and data storage/management.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) to two (2) years in academic setting with knowledge of Banner Finance and Banner HR
  • Strong communication, organization, planning and computer (word processing, spreadsheets, data management) skills
  • Work independently, and in collaboration with multiple stakeholders including faculty, staff, students, UNCG central office and project partners
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and set priorities

•Works closely with the Post-Award Coordinator in the management of fiscal and personnel matters related to the grant.
